Eat These Foods to Improve Your Skin!

Acne sucks. Zits suck. One reason that skin issues irritate me so much is because I never really know why they are happening. Did I eat something I’m allergic too? Am I dehydrated? Is it my period? genetics? Who knows!

One thing is for sure, eating the right foods can’t hurt! I believe what you eat/drink has a much bigger impact on your skin than what you put on it. The best skin care is a healthy diet. 

Your gut health has a serious impact on your hormones, which can negatively affect your skin if they are thrown off balance. In your gut, the trillions of microorganisms that live in your digestive tract make up what they call your gut flora - or gut microbiota.

Here is a list of foods and drinks that can feed those good bacteria in your gut flora which will, in turn, help balance your hormones, reduce inflammation, and improve your immune system. Try and add these into your weekly diet to give your skin a boost! 

  • probiotic gut shot - I get this drink from Sprout’s Farmers Market. It has amazing ingredients.  Probiotics are live bacteria or yeasts that are found in fermented foods. They take up residence and improve your gut health.

  • turmeric - You can buy ground up turmeric and add it to any of your meals! I add a tsp to my smoothies or on my avocado toast! 

  • leafy greens - Leafy greens are High-fiber foods. Fiber feeds the healthy bacteria in your gut! 

  • healthy fats - Like avocados and almonds.

  • citrus fruits - oranges, lemons, grapefruits!

  • seeds - flax, hemp, and chia seeds!

  • sweet potatoes

  • tomatoes

  • kiwi’s

1 handful kale

1 handful spinach

1 oz. root turmeric

1/2 orange

5 strawberries

1 long carrot

1 lemon
